Spring Cleaning Checklist

With temperatures on the rise, spring is a great time to make sure your home heating system and oil-fired furnace or boiler is clean and ready to perform for the coming winter. Here is a quick list of things you can do now to make sure you won’t have any surprise problems next fall.

Inspect Your Tank Make sure your oil tank is in good, reliable working condition. Check for wet spots, leaks, damage, or any other signs that your fuel tank may need attention or replacing. If you find damage or leaks, call immediately for a quote to replace it.

Clear Clutter During springtime it’s easy for plants to creep in on outdoor tanks. Likewise, during the winter months it’s easy for life to pile up around indoor tanks. Make sure your tank is free from debris, plants, and any clutter in your basement or garage — tools, bikes, boxes, or other household items.

Replace Your Filter A great time to replace your furnace filter or air filter is at the end of the heating season. You’ll be starting fresh next time you need to use your heat and will have one less thing to worry about in the fall.

Schedule a Cleaning or Service Getting your oil-fired furnace or boiler cleaned and serviced during spring or summer is a smart decision. Appointments are often easier to schedule during these off-peak months, and it means your system will be ready to work when autumn arrives. A service technician can inspect, clean, and repair your equipment as needed — and tank or system installations are also available should you need to replace or upgrade any part of your home’s heating system.
